Mel Jhey’s practice explores the somatemotional connection through material, process and environment.

Working primarily with ceramics alongside drawing and installation, Jhey approaches clay as a responsive and unpredictable material. Her process is fast and physical, allowing glaze, slip and fire to actively shape the final form.

Her hybrid sculptures sit between the familiar and the surreal, suggesting botanical growths, anatomical fragments, relics and speculative lifeforms. These ambiguous works trace cycles of decay and regeneration, holding humour and playfulness in tension with darker, visceral energies.
